Tucson Audubon Society

Tucson Audubon Society is southeast Arizona’s leading non-profit in the conservation of birds and their habitats. They encourage people of all ages and skill levels to try birding in an effort to bring them closer to the natural world and understand the importance of conservation.

The goal of this project was to develop a fresh direction for Tucson Audubon Society’s online presence in order to expand their audience to include young adults, children and those new to birding.

The mood boards are meant to invoke a strong feeling of connection - connection between humans and nature as well as the connection among people that can take place in nature. Two directions were developed for the client to choose from. The first direction is a modern take on a field guide. While field guides may be more well known by older generations, the goal of this approach was to help birding feel more approachable for all ages by including visual aids and guides to follow. The second direction is a clean, iconography and image based approach that was slightly more modern looking than the first direction. Images of people are included in both directions in order to engage those who may not immediately connect with birds, but can see and understand the importance of connecting with and protecting nature. A social graphic was created to help the client better envision how these directions could possibly be applied to their online presence moving forward.
