'GLEBE' Gateway Sign
In partnership with Stewart Bailey of Intu Design
Client: Glebe BIA

When the Glebe BIA hired us to work on this project in 2020, they already had an approved concept in hand (typography and colours). We were brought on board to complete design development. We considered human factors, scale, orientation, prepared fabrication / installation drawings and quality assurance.
For the custom 3D letters we specified a welded aluminum construction, with a thick thermoplastic coating - the resulting vibrant colours are exceptionally weather and damage resistant. We also detailed the floating footing design, as not to disturb the utility lines below.
Early on in the project, the client showed concern with respect to the site location. It was narrow and running parallel to the road, lending to poor visibility with respect to traffic approach. We built a 3D model to explore orientation possibilities, considering both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The solution we arrived at broke the letters out of a singular plane to optimize sight-lines and scale, for maximum visual impact.
A preliminary look at the primary visual elements and ergonomic considerations.
