Autostraddle: How to Fight Eviction

This was one of six illustrations commissioned by Autostraddle (a queer online magazine) for for their 'How to Survive A Post(?)-COVID World' series. This illustration accompanies a fantastic piece of writing by Koty Neelis - view the article online here.

Inspiration
The image is an apartment block with one block missing - in this empty space sits an evicted tenant with their arms around their legs. In the warm glow of the other windows we can see life happening for those who are still within their apartments. Although this accompanies a piece of writing that gives very practical advice for US tenants around legislation and rights, I wanted to focus in on the feeling of loss that Koty writes about.

Method
The texture on the building and in the background to the left were created using scans of black ink on paper. The rest of the image was rendered digitally using Procreate and Photoshop.
