“Fluid Polka Play” is mainly inspired by the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama's extensive use of polka dots in her art. Polka dots, however, were also quite the trend among designers during s/s 2020—from small polka dots to oversized polka dots, the S/S 2020 runway saw it all. So, With that in mind, I put my own twist on the regular polka dot pattern by adding in paint splatter motifs. I wanted the paint splatter motifs to serve as a contrast to the more structured polka dots in order to create a more relaxed and looser-looking design. Hence, the title “Fluid Polka Play”—a play on the regular polka dot pattern.
