What are Dental Abutments
Abutments are the small metal pieces that are used to join the prosthetic(artificial teeth) with the implants. Abutments of different sizes and angles are called Multi Unit Abutments which ensure better fittings of the dental prosthetic.
How Abutments are placed:
*Exposing the implant: If your dentist has also planned a second surgery for you then the abutments are placed by making a small incision in the gum tissue.
*Placing healing abutments: Sometimes a healing abutment is temporarily secured to the implant.
*Placing Final Abutments: Final placement done after impressions have been taken and the gums have healed.
In 4-6 weeks the gums around the abutments are healed. Dentist’s advice must be followed during this time.
