Design and passion combined - Javelin throwing
Flat Design Project by Luisa Himmler
For my second project in my basic graphic design course, I created a flat design. For this I learned Adobe Illustrator, which I used for the first time.
Learning and designing my project at the same time was an educational, exciting and sometimes desperate process. The revision and perfection of my flat design was mainly driven by design, as design represents my greatest passion.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed working with Illustrator very much and from now on I will do designs that I used to do with Photoshop with Illustrator.
Inspiration:
I knew very quickly that I wanted to portray my sport, javelin throwing.
But I didn't know what exactly I wanted to represent with it. The process kept changing a little bit during the three weeks. With my final result, I am now very satisfied.

Work process:
1) I started my project with a sketch of the javelin run-up.
For this I took several photos as inspiration and finally traced one with the app Sketches on my iPad.

2) First Sketch in Adobe Illustrator
For the first contouring I used the pen tool. However, I designed the individual body parts all in one path.
Finally, I created a second contour that contains a separate path for each body part. I also experimented with colors worked on some details.

3) Next I worked on the background.

4) In the last step, I made small changes and developed a color scheme for myself.

Here you can see my final flat design project.
The design represents the last three steps of the javelin throw. On the one hand, the different colors of the jersey and the javelin are meant to symbolize the different steps. On the other hand, I wanted to give the image a personal touch. The colors of the jersey represent the German flag and the colors of the javelin represent the American flag.
In the end, I took the colors of the two flags and tried to match the other colors around them.

Final Project - Flat Design
I am very happy with my project, but I would like to work on it more in the future. My goal is to create a visual representation of a javelin throw 11 run up and then experiment more with the colors.
