Statement:
Through my process, I seek uncover the history within materials and their implications to our culture. Wood is harvested, used for industrial means, constructed, deconstructed, discarded, found and repurposed. I want to emphasize the inherent aesthetic qualities of wood, and through doing so, discover the delicacies of a durable material. Through time, they acquire their own poetic and musical qualities. Every scratch, every layer of weathered paint tells a story about ourselves, the things we create and the things we destroy.I want my work to tempt the viewer to look closer at what surrounds them, the history and perfection that is hidden there.
I present the viewer with everyday materials composed as paintings. They are contextualized to be viewed as such, thus lending itself for reconsideration as philosophical and precious objects.
