Very First Engraving Experience
Step 1: Collages
In order to get unexpected results I went from one magazine to another and used collage as a base. The images started speaking from themselves and the inspiration came naturally. Because having two pieces of work is always a good way not to get too stuck on one single idea, there are two collages.
Step 2: Ink
It was then time to chose and stick to one project for my copperplate. Using a translucent paper I turned the torn images into a united picture. That step pushed me closer towards the final product by getting rid of the colors and creating a world of structures with the ink.
Step 3: Engraving
Since the prints from an engraving are reversed the engraving as to be done reversed from the reference too. As disturbing as it first feels it can also present itself as an interesting point of view of one’s own illustration. That step was the most signifying to me. I was finally feeling the interaction between materials and conquered my fear of not having the ability to work properly with that technique.
Last step: Printing
The last part of the process was harder than it seems. Long, sometimes exhausting but most importantly meticulous is how I would define it. With a few tries, I got a satisfying result. Overall that project helped me to learn loads of things on techniques and on my own creativity.
