Stargate Steelbooks

This is a dream project of mine, as a graphic designer I love making artwork for movies and tv shows that helps show what the movie or show is about and get people interested in watching it. This project I decided to make as a collaboration project with my dad who introduced me to Stargate and a fellow designer in Spain who has become a friend of mine, Luis Alberto Rodriquez.

Stargate SG1 is the TV show that got me excited about stories growing up. It is a science fiction show about the US military learning how to open a gateway to other worlds and learning that the pyramids in Egypt were built by a parasitic race of aliens who enslave other worlds. SG1 is a group made by the US air force to explore these other worlds and meet new cultures. Stargate Atlantis is a spin off to SG1 that explores the ancient city of Atlantis in the Pegasus galaxy, and Stargate Universe is another spin off that strands a group on an ancient ship millions of lightyears from Earth.

This project is following the dream of putting my own artwork on a steelbook blu ray case, using the TV shows that inspired my Graphic Design career. Collaborating with Luis, who turns artwork into steelbook blu ray cases this is the project that we came up with.
When first figuring out how I wanted to design the project I knew that I wanted to incorporate concept art from the various seasons of the shows that helped make the shows into what they are. After contacting one of the show's writers who helped me find concept art I was able to turn the designs into cover pieces for each season.
I knew that I wanted to include the Stargate itself in the front cover of each season's design along with the concept artwork for each season.
These are the final cover designs for the SG1 covers that I came up with, all having the concept artwork within the Stargate with a starry background each having the color of the original dvd season releases. The logo for the show right below the Stargate and concept artwork.
For the back I continued the starry design and color of each season's front cover, and included a different main character from the show for each season.
Inside artwork for steelbooks normally has a powerful or memorable scene from the movie or tv show that is displayed. For each season of SG1 I worked with my dad who helped me pick out images from actual scenes from the show, except for seasons 6, 7, and 8 having more concept artwork from various ships in the seasons.
I then sent the images to Luis, who put them together and we worked together to come up with a design for the outside spine of each steelbook.
Stargate SG1 also has 2 movies that I made one steelbook for as well. For the cover I changed up the design a little bit and used the official artwork used for the soundtrack to Stargate the Ark of Truth and put a gold filter over it to match the design of the rest of the SG1 steelbooks.
For Stargate Atlantis I used the same layout as with SG1 but changed it slightly. The Stargate is the Stargate that they use in Atlantis, the starry background is slightly different and on the spine we came up with a different way to show which season each steelbook is for on the bottom.
These are the final designs for the inside of the Stargate Atlantis steelbooks, each showing a different scene from each season.
As with Stargate Atlantis for Stargate Universe I slightly changed up the design, but kept the layout the same.
These are the steelbooks when Luis finished printing them and sent them to me. For me this project means the world and I am very glad that I got to show my love for a franchise that changed my life, and I want to thank Luis for collaborating with me to make this dream a reality.
