Women In Politics

About the Exhibition
2020 marked the centennial anniversary of the 19th amendment, which granted women the right to vote.  The exhibition, A Voice of Her Own: South Carolina Women in Politics explores the long history of women who worked to make their voices heard. As our first exhibition to open during the pandemic, a 306-virtual viewing was made available on our website. Enjoy the journey through this virtual tour.

The Title Graphic
The title graphic displays the boldness, grace and fortitude of the women presented. It features a collage encompassing multiple aspects of the suffrage movement backed by bold colors. The purple and gold shades are the signature colors of Suffragists. The title graphic served as branding for the exhibition and was used in multiple mediums. The exhibition was featured centerfold in Images Magazine, South Carolina State Museum's member publication..

The Panels
The panels covered topics within the suffrage movement and highlighted South Carolina Suffragists. The larger panels incorporated components of the title graphic while the Suffragists panels displayed the Votes for Women sash, an accessory worn by supporters and displayed one of the most recognizable slogans of the women's movement.
