TDG Brand Identity
Rebranding of Personal Brand

/ INFO /
Logo design, branding, typeface, colour scheme, and stationery mock-ups for the artist Tristan D. Grey.

The goal was to try and create a timeless, stylish logo design that works on social media as well as in printed media, is easily recognisable, and incorporates the name's initials for a slimmed-down monogram to be used consistently in future representations and communications of the brand across all platforms.

/ Concept /
The concept behind the design of the monogram lies in the blending of Tristan  D. Grey's initials into one simple and elegantly designed symbol inspired by logo designs for Yves Saint Laurent by graphic designer Cassandre and Louis Vuitton's minimalistic LV monogram.

The uppercase T blends into a single glyph with the uppercase D via their top and bottom crossbars only divided by a small gap combining their stems, enabling both elements to be read simultaneously while forming a ligature, whereas the italic uppercase G is set underneath to blend with the former two from about half a letter height below. The font used for the capital letters was originally designed based on a standard traditional serif type using only capital letters for the entire alphabet for future use on the artist's website.

The resulting TDG monogram is completed by the words ‘TRISTAN D. GREY’ in capital letters underneath using the same typeface that the monogram uses, followed by the word ‘ARTIST’ also in capital letters, this time around utilising a sans-serif type. The font used for this is small but easily readable and framed by two horizontal lines, making it as wide as the artist's name above it.

The monogram design and logo text are typically executed in white with a contrasting black background, which for design purposes can easily be switched around with the text in black on contrasting white background, depending on the context in which the logo is meant to be displayed.
