Double Self-Reflection

'Double Self-Reflection' explores the conflict and link between my inner and outer self. This link is brought about through questioning the nature of my social media identity by using self-portraiture as a way of revealing deeper aspects of my identity and self-image online. My work focuses on challenging the viewer's expectations by digitally and physically distorting my final images and videos to portray a visual representation of how my identity on social media has been deconstructed into different selves.

Reflections created using light mimic the idea of a digital screen. The image becomes able to have multiple possibilities for reading and understanding. This symbolises the concept of being deceived into looking at screens. Through this, the conflict between the inner and outer self is highlighted, evoking that the difference between the two is often unclear and can easily be merged.
The superimposed moving images upon the installation are to signify further a clear representation of the online distortion effect I am trying to evoke. By having moving images projected on the printed acrylic grid image, the image itself becomes translucent and harder to decode. Thus, this also foregrounds the viewer's involvement in interacting with the work to have a better understanding of the printed images, as one would be required to do when scrolling through someone's images ons social media.
