Silent Witness
I chose to draw the woman in this piece, the daughter of an Inuit Chief, because of the strength and resilience her composure represents. And the subtle facial expression she wears creates more of a mystery, as her gaze reaches out to the viewer. Thus, though she remains wordless, her presence as a real living figure gives testimony to the struggles Native Americans have lived through with the pressures of constant Westward Expansion and encroachment of land by European settlers, as well as numerous human rights violations caused by white imperialists.
