OPEN DEFECATION

OPEN DEFECATION

India is termed as the world’s capital of open defecation. 53% of the Indian population lack sanitation facilities. Almost 300 million women in India have no access to basic sanitation facilities, running a risk of various gynaecological and urinary problems. That's as many as 1-in-3 women. The implications of this range from proximity to faeces and the risk of disease, vulnerability to snake and insect bites, and often as in the case of millions of young girls and women, vulnerability to sexual abuse.
