Lightweight Car Brake Pedal

DESCRIPTION: Part successfully optimized and redesigned using Inspire and Solidworks. Topology Optimization removed 80% of material from original design. Parametric Optimization removed 33% of material from original design. Due to printing limitations, part was printed in ABS Plastic instead of Al. Redesigned part was simulated and compared against stress and displacement values of original part.
For Aluminum, increase in displacement was negligible and the factor of safety of the optimized part was still above the minimum value. For ABS plastic, the factor of safety was below the minimum value, so it is not feasible for manufacturing. Redesigned part followed DFAM, reduced support material, and required post-processing to accommodate threads for foot plate. Redesigned part viable substitution for the Wilwood Clutch Pedal.
