The sky is different today.
I’ve never known the sun
to shine so bright from behind
puffy pure white clouds.
The sun is a tricky thing.
It pretends
it has to be aggressive to thrive,
has to be hot and blinding
to shine its brightest.
I’ve believed it until today.
It’s peeking around cottonball clouds
and making lemony stripes
across the sky, ever so gently
disturbing the delicate midday blue.
Bright as it is,
it doesn’t even overpower the moon,
which barely shows its
cheeky grin on the horizon.
