Kitchen Still Life

Kitchen Still Life Project by Kathleen Ford
This was our final project for the year in my very first drawing class of college. We had to assemble 4-6 kitchen objects, whether they were food or something else, and arrange them coming out of a bag laid on the counter. My items were: banana, can of beans, doggy cake mix, Best Foods Mayonnaise, creamer, and a bottle of sauerkraut. I chose a paper bag to draw all of the items near or in, and arranged the setup very carefully in my kitchen. We had to spend at least an hour sketching this out, and I am honestly very happy with how it turned out. This was my very first full scale still life and I am proud of how the kitchen still life came out.
This is a page of (extremely) rough sketches in which I thought about potential ways that I could form the arrangement on the counter. My professor told us to spend no more than a minute or two on each sketch, as the most important thing was the final arrangement. As you can see, my first sketch is the most like how I finally ended up arranging the kitchen items. The others were certainly good ideas, but simple things such as the angle in which I wanted to draw them became issues so they were eventually scrapped.
