Wire Sculpture Bust

A wire sculpture bust. I wanted to create a feeling of elegance, grace, and strength with this piece.
I began the process by creating an outline design.
This was my first time really working with wire like this, and I ended up really enjoying it. As you can see, I used two wire thicknesses. I used the thicker wire (12 gauge) as the support, and as a way to emphasize lines that I considered to be importance aspects of the piece. These lines also create the implied lines shaping the back of the head in the profile view. With my thinner gauge wire (26) I formed the aspects of the face. I wanted to highlight the important planes and shapes that can be seen in the facial structure  of both the profile and front view. In order to do this I had to carefully shape the wire from both views to capture the unique shape I wanted to see from both angles. I intended for my lines to have a thin appearance, but also portray a feeling of confidence. This was harder to achieve that I expected, and think the thin came through a bit shakier than I intended, creating a lack of a sense of confidence. The main struggle I faced when creating my wire sculpture was trying to keep a sense of symmetry between the sides. I ended up being quite happy with the profile view, which is sadly not portrayed very well in my photo, and less happy with the frontal view,  but I am still happy with the overall outcome of my sculpture.
