For this compound word I chose to illustrate "Coffee cake". I originally went toward the direction of a topsy-turvy cake made out of coffee cups. In theory, I think the idea was there but the composition wasn't conducive to a square format and the mugs looked more dirty than made of cake. I kept with the idea of a mug made out of cake because I liked the whimsy of the idea. I was inspired by E.H. Shepard's illustrations in Winnie the Pooh, hence the lighter, more pastel color palette and sketchier look to the drawing. Also, I've always enjoyed drawing with charcoal so I wanted to mimic that texture digitally.
