Adobe Creative Jam SEA 2020 Project Process

The Adobe Creative Jam 2020
Fig 1.1 Adobe Creative Jam
This is a competition made by Adobe to challenge young students to design an app based on the given theme. This is a team competition, participants are to make a group on a team of 3 to 5 and create an app and produce a short video for it based on the given theme.

There were 4 themes with the following description :

1.) Check-in App for Conferences

This pandemic has taught us new ways of doing businesses and meetings. The new modes of it will now focus on technology and wellness. Create a check in app on a mobile for a major conference keeping social distancing during the conference.

2.) Dreams Unmasked

Our real lives are integrally tied with COVID-19 but our dreams need not be shackled with it. Students can be asked to visualize their dreams in the times of COVID-19. Are they colorful or colorless; are our fears taking shape in our dreams or are they fearless? We live in the present and real life but our mind always carry the past and future. These may be the new hopes, the memories of our experience or invisible imaginings. Creative minds can unmask these Dreams.

3.) Find Ideal Roommate

It is difficult for people to start new life in a new city, especially when they do not have trusted contacts to rely on. Design an app that makes it safe to and the ideal roommate in a new city while making the experience a breeze for the users.

4.) The New Normal after COVID-19

The entire world is experiencing a huge change, let's put "positivity" to this situation and make this change take us all forward. Listening to inspiring stories of doctors and all medical personnel fighting in the fore-front of this pandemic give us the much needed boost to make our presence meaningful in the world. Let us acknowledge the fighters out there, give them the respect and the credit for saving lives and putting humanity before thinking about themselves.

The Process

We chose the third theme (Find Ideal Roommate), we started off with brainstorming some ideas on what sort of features does the application need. We figured it out by doing role-plays and we put ourselves in the shoes of the user and try to sort out the features that we want. To keep track of the features, we made a user journey map to keep track of the features. After that we tasked ourselves to save time, I was responsible for the low fidelity prototype while my other groupmates Zoe Wong and Lee Yu Hui, they were responsible with art direction and the video editing.

We then chose references to work with . The way we chose our reference is to look for app that focus heavily with one feature so for example if our app has a chat feature then we look for apps like LINE, Whatsapp, etc. So these were the reference that we pick.

With the reference picked out, I started designing the low fidelity prototype. The way I did the low fidelity prototype is by making sure that the flow and the layout is as simple as possible and is as straight-forward as possible. We did not have time to do our user-testing due to the time limit. The time limit was 2 weeks, but due to some theme misunderstanding, we only had 5 days to work on the application from planning to finishing it. So with that said, this was the low fidelity prototype that I designed.

After doing the low fidelity prototype, we continued on with the high-fidelity prototype where we worked on applying the style that we want to go with. For the artstyle we had keywords to kinda guide us to the design that we wanted to go for, so the keywords that we had was:

- Vibrant
- Friendly
- Cute

With those keywords we had a fixed artstyle of what we want and these are the pictures that we picked.

With a reference artstyle that we picked, it is time to work on the high fidelity prototype and this is what we came up with.

The Final Work
The next to show is the logo that we made, the video that we did and finally the prototype. We had a discussion about the video on how we want the video to play out, we wanted to make it like an advertisement with the voice narrations and drone shots. So after discussion my member Yu Hui compiled a bunch of videos to use from Adobe Stock while I provided the voice for the video. So here is the logo process, the video that we worked on, and the prototype link.
