Brief: The refugee crisis currently receives little news coverage. How can the issue be addressed with a new relevance in our current society, and change prejudice perceptions of refugees in the process?
Insight: Displaced people living in camps find comfort in food, shopping for groceries in the camp market gives structure to their day, and acts as a distraction. Strangers can bond over a shared love of food, and compare their different family recipes. Food is a universal language which everybody can relate to.
Outcome: Souk is a restaurant which tells the stories of Syrian refugees through the language of food. It celebrates the beauty of Syrian culture, encouraging the culture to be embraced in the UK.
