Self Portrait Multiples: SUBURBIA

Self Portrait Multiples: Suburbia
For our Self Portrait Multiple assignment I decided to use the moving to the suburbs to my advantage. I liked the idea of using the classic suburb road for a surreal touch and still get a little quirky. I tried to incorporate all of the different personalities that would be present at an emergency situation like this. There are some that help, watch from a far, and some who don't care. My two potential themes one could see here is a) being swallowed up by the suburbs, and b) in covid times the only human who could help you get out of this situation would have to be yourself. I personally think both work here.

I struggled a lot for obvious reasons with the warping of the street. I'm very amateur in photoshop so I definitely had to experiment a lot with different gadgets and just getting more used to the brush tool. I watched a lot of different videos. I also struggled with the characters that were touching others and just had to get resourceful with what I knew how to do. It still looks off, but I decided to just lean into it and find that surreal feel we saw in some of those photos we saw in class. I used the Dodge and burn tool to make the lighting really extreme while using darker tones. I found this helped distract from the more specific problematic details in the images. Overall as difficult as it was, I had fun experimenting!
