THE QUARANTINE BOX

A project inspired on the “Cornell box”* that portrays my personal experience through quarantine due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, inspired by the work and style of Victor Moscoso and the psychedelic movement.

My personal experience through the COVID-19 pandemic has been different from most people. I'm an international student from Japan in Boston, and because the outbreak of this pandemic was sudden, when everyone else was able to go back home easily, I couldn't. I spent half of my 2020 with some family in Hawaii, as getting out of the US was complicated and I didn't think this was going to last long. I thought I was going to be able to go back to school for fall, but that wasn't the case. When my parents realized that, they thought it would be better if I just went back home. 2020 has been a year very overwhelming and full of surprises, as I had to spend my time moving around a lot while others were just stuck at home, which is what I wanted to represent with my box using bright colors and the psychedelic style, along with the objects representing the places I was in.
