Gangsta Eyezon Poster and Resin figure

Toy Design
In October 2013, the kaiju artist Mark Nagata, owner of Max Toy Company, celebrated the 5th Anniversary of his popular character Kaiju Eyezon with a collective art show held at Double Punch Gallery in San Francisco, his hometown. I was contacted by Mark Nagata, who wanted me to design the poster for his show. He asked me to re-design his character for the poster.3
The original Kaiju Eyezon, as designed by Mark Nagata.
My interpretation of the character, the "Gangsta Eyezon" in the final version of the poster.
My interpretation comes from my idea that Kaiju (giant monsters) are like street gangsters that make cities and heroes suffer. They are just big criminals, after all.
A 18x24" gliclee print of the raw artwork was exhibited at the show too.
A few were printed, signed, numbered and some are still available at www.maxtoyco.com
All of them include a hand-drawn doodle.

As part of the show, I was also asked to customize a Kaiju Eyezon vinyl toy like the one above. I tried to make mine look similar to my re-design of the character, resulting in what you see below.

The shoes were sculpted on the toy using Sculpey.

Thanks to how the fans welcomed the poster and the re-design of the Kaiju Eyezon, Mark Nagata got interested in producing a Gangsta Eyezon resin figure.
The figure was sculpted and hand casted in resin by Barbatos FX, a small company from Granada. What follows is a series of pictures of different stages of the WIP of the sculpt.
Comparison between one of the final stages of the sculpt and the Gangsta Eyezon poster.

And finally, here's a series of pictures of the finished figure as painted by Javier Jiménez. The figure debuted at the San Diego Comic-Con 2013, sold at the Rotofugi booth.
A few pieces are still available at their website.

Group shot with 5 pieces.
