Instructed by arch. Yamac Korfali

The site is located in Macka region in the heart of Istanbul, surrounded by the greenery of Macka Park from three directions and Kadircalar street from the fourth side. Is location is of high value due to its place near important landmarks and tourist attractions as well as main highway connections. The area is approximately 16.000m2 with a topography level difference exceeding 16 meters. A century old gasometro is located at the southern edge. An aerial tramway passes from the north side of the site connecting two hills, and a pedestrian bridge crosses the street and connects the same hills at the northen part pf the site as well.
The museum consists of a permanent gallery, research center, workshop for the research center, temporary gallery for the workshop’s products, resturant, cafe and a multipurpose hall which hosts more than 300 seats.  The main entrance is located in a volume separated into two levels not intersected with each other in the plan, one is from the street level +2m, and is where the museum starts, the other one is on the courtyard +5m where the end of the museum is, these two levels are connected by stairs that that overlook the street. The circulation is made up of a pack of vast ramps, with ratios ranging between 1/20 and 1/30, which also act as exhibition spaces. Most of the stairs hanging in between floors can be seen from lower levels which facilitates visual contact/visual connection. The southern cantilevered volume is the highest in the exhibition at +10m level. The exhibition is lit with natural light flooding from the skylight while a shading element controls and diffuses the amount of light entering. In the northern part of the project the multipurpose hall is located with the foyer. The restaurant which has a free ground plan in the middle of the site can be reached by the foyer or by the lobby of the exhibition.
