Violence Against Women
April 2020
The goal of this project was to create a poster for the Mexican Biennial Poster contest that bring awareness to the violence committed against women in Mexico.
My inspiration came from looking at women protest marches against femicide in Mexico, and one image I saw was incredibly compelling. The women were marching with their hands up and red paint on their palms. I interpreted it as the blood on the hands of the politicians ignoring this plight, and the blood of the women who have been hurt or killed from this phenomenon.

I drew the hand with the paint/blood, and I wanted to leave it up to the viewer of what they thought it was. Whether it was a woman in one of these marches, or a woman in this violence. I also made sure it was clear this was Mexico, by the bracelet on the hand and using the color palette of the flag itself. Lastly, I also wanted to represent the women who are from Mexico and the women who were in the pictures I saw so I matched the hand to their skin color.
