My grandmother asked me to paint a sunflower picture on a solid black canvas. I began by sketching it out on the canvas and deciding how I was going to approach the painting. I centered the sunflower in the middle of the canvas and began painting. I added some pedals towards the middle and shadows behind those pedals to separate them from the pedals in the back. I painted white dots in the middle of the sunflower to separate the flower and the dark brown center of the flower to get the final result. The bright yellow hues in the sunflower really pop against the solid black background. My grandmother was very pleased with the painting and asked that I create another piece for her.
