Tie and Dye is a premitive technique being in use from ancient times in the history. The most premitive records of using this techinque are from China and Japan. These techniques were used during the T’ang Dynasty in China and the Nara Period in Japan as far back as the 6th century. People used natural dyes from berries, leaves, roots and flowers to color clothing. They boiled the natural items, and then soaked the fabrics in the hot, dyed water to get dyed by a new color.
In around 6th century this technique in India became famous by the name "Bhandni" by using the threads to tie the piece of cloth/ fabric and then dipping into the dye. Now-a-days this techinque is used in both style by using the powdered as well as pre-liquified dyes kept in bottles.
