An illustrated study of the internal anatomy of the Orca.
Like most marine mammals, Orcas have specialized organs built for life at sea, including multi-faceted, or “reniculated” kidneys - for more efficient toxin filtration. Also notable, is a fatty tissue in their forehead, known as melon. While much is still unknown about this adipose material, it is believed to play a key role in both vocalization & echo location.
