CORE2291 Design Lab 1: Project 2 Illustrator Techniques
For this project we are redrawing the Coca Cola logo and type art. Using our pen tool we have to trace the CoCa Cola type, recreate the red circle, and if we want to we can redraw the bottle. To fix any mistakes we use the direct selection tool to move around, and adjust any of our line work. When we are all done we will fill everything with color, and then move on to create two different pattern designs.
Visual Exploration - Project 2
When researching pattern designs and ideas on Pinterest I came across a bunch of 80's/90's themes, getting hit with nostalgia from the 90's I decided to go for this as my idea. Patterns include a lot of random shapes and various bright colors, for my sketches posted below I only have two. I'm not great at drawing and I also visualize my ideas more in my head instead of putting them on paper.
Pattern Design
For my patterns I wanted to use the various shapes, spirals, squiggles/dots, and lines that I found when researching 80's/90's designs. I noticed they also used a lot of bright colors, so I tried using those too.
I started off designing the bottle cap and the coke can, afterwards I started adding the shapes. Once I got the shapes in a size that looked good I duplicated them, removed the fill and added a black stroke line to them. Once I finished that I grouped each design and started moving them around to see what looked good. It was kinda difficult trying to find the right placement for all my designs to fit nicely, having to constantly rearrange them if I didn't like how it all looked. Once I found the right arrangement for everything I started adding small dots to fill in the white spaces.
For my second pattern design I created three Coca Cola bottles, along with lines, more shapes, spirals and squiggle lines. I decided to place my shapes and designs this way because in a lot of my visual exploration images everything is scattered around, and I decided to try that out for my second design.
