DDL1 Project 2: Coca-Cola Redraw
In this project, we were required to redraw the Coca-Cola logo in Illustrator as well as create two final repeating patterns inspired by it.
Process with photos for redrawing the Coca-Cola logo in Illustrator:
First I began by color sampling the original artwork in order to create the swatches I would need for the final piece.
Next, I used the pen tool and traced the script- using the box/grid method in order to get the correct points. I then used the shape builder tool to combine the connecting letters.
Next, I used the shape and linear gradient tool to create the circular background for the logo.
Lastly, I copied my previous script and recolored it to create an alternate red script without a background.
Pattern Elements:
For this section of the project I wanted to use the Coke bottle within a camping/outdorrs context. Being in quarantine these past few months, I've found that I have been spending more time in the woods and took this as inspiration for this project. While looking for specifically Coca-Cola related imagery I came up dry with ideas- so I have included surface design patterns that are organized with their specific elements in ways I was inspired by.
Below are the inspiration for uses of surface patterns (credits found in project moodboard):
Pattern Process:
For my patterns, I wanted to have a woodsy/camping theme. With this I am incorporating a bear and a raccoon each holding a Coke bottle, a cooler with bottles inside, as well as some other minor decorative camping elements.
I began by simply using my sketch as a base for creating my elements with the pen tool. I wanted the bottles they were holding to be as accurate as possible so I found some cola bottles to outline and recreate with the characters holding them.
Next I assembled my elements into their respective patterns using a grid and rulers to space them evenly. In my second pattern I used the pen tool and the shape builder to create the tent and the trees.
