Yoga mats have always been specially crafted mats used as a protection to prevent the feet and hands slipping while performing the asana in yoga practice. An early version developed by the famous yoga teacher Angela Farmer around 1980, known as a wet-mat, was actually made of rubber. Today, yoga mat is used as an essential tool in most yoga studios and gyms for both practicing and maintaining the smooth, flat surface of the mat.
