Inception | Poster

Originally I had planned to re-use the concept I used for my poster for the third season of Netflix's Dark for Inception before I veered off course. I realized then that this also old concept could fit the movie better but it actually took much longer than I expected before the project started to look somewhat decent.
Like the movie itself, there's a lot to interpret in this piece (by design or by accident). The placement of the cast reflects - from bottom left to top right - how deep the character goes into the dreamscape. You'll also notice that the palette of colours I chose is the same as that used in the official promotional pictures - blue and gold. The gradient I placed also reflects the evolution of the dreamscape; the first levels are more muted in blues and greys while the final levels where Mal and Saito are trapped the longest adopt the warmer hues of the movie.
Additionally, Cobb and Mal are the only characters whose tiles intertwine, signifying their toxic but inescapable relationship. Arthur, Eames and Ariadne take up the central part of the poster and I remember wanting to establish some link between them given the only alluded hints in the movie, especially between Arthur and Eames.
Finally, each character has its own moniker while the rest of the words form the tagline of the movie. They are all spread out in a manner that induces confusion and puzzlement.
I do not own the rights to the pictures used to create this piece.
