Why it is about adolescent girls?
According to the Sixth China Census of Population, there are approximately 169 million female youths and two thirds of them live in the sub-advanced regions. Approximately one quarter of young people aged 15-24 years old are the sexually active population, and most of them have individual needs for sexual and reproductive health services. Adolescent and young adult females are more susceptible to infections than male because of the greater mucosal surface area exposed easily to the pathogens during sexual intercourse. But many female youths are not aware the risky of STDs/STIs because some of diseases have no any signs or symptoms at the beginning. Or some young people are excessive panic-stricken to the gynecological diseases. In addition, despite egalitarian value is promoted in the modern society, virginity issue is still burn into part of males’ unconscious mind influenced by the traditional opinion of male chauvinism, which confines females’ images of subordinating to men although they have realized their rights to independence. For these reasons, the sex educators and sexology scholars are committed to promote sex education courses, however, the introduction of sexuality topics is usually resisted by the conservative. The purpose of this study is to discuss the available ways with the perspective of cognitive ethology to promote sex education for adolescent and young adult females based on the China’s context, and aim to improve the existing online educational platforms by design innovation, thus empowering them to stand for their healthy lifestyle about sexuality.
What's Sexual Script Theory?
Sexual Script Theory was put forward in the book Sexual conduct: The social sources of human sexuality (1973), which was written by American sociologists, William Simon and John H. Gagnon. The scripting approach is the first substantial explanation for the law of socialization in human sexual behavior. As described in the book, the concept of "Sexuality" means physical activities of sex and the external characteristics of sexuality; moreover, it emphasizes how folks' sexual ideology and attitude influence their sexual behavior. In this theory, "Sexuality" is transformed into a gradual structure of the macro aspect, medium aspect, and micro aspect, which are inter-subject cultural surround, inter-personal relationships, and intra-psychic experience. The scripting underlines that sexual development is more like a process of sexual activities integrating into the current social-cultural arrangement than just a process of biological growth.
